Driver Ati 4379 Serial Ata Controller Xp

Any help or thoughts on this approach would be appreciated. This time I would to windows update to stop prompting me, the hide update is not available since tried to install the driver. the files play fine. never download drivers for non-microsoft products !  Using safe mode and last known good configuration to boot up I am able to get it started; each time I bootup I get the only problem now is that my dvd drive doesn't show up!

i have email acer tech support about the update here, and gave a link to all the posts here as well. Was about to drop my Acer 3100 from the tallest building, and be happy! I have an Acer Aspire 5100 too, and your message was so god for me!! Glad it worked alright.And just a side note - the first thing I did with my notebook was get rid of Norton.
